It is necessary to oil for the steel wire ropes, which are contained phosphating coated steel wire ropes, galvanized steel wire ropes, stainless steel wire ropes, bright steel wire ropes and so on. Plastic coated steel wire ropes are generally not coated with grease or coated a little.

Steel wire ropes often work in very harsh environments. The corrosion and the wear will seriously affect the lifetime of the steel wire rope. Therefore, the steel wire rope should be greased earnestly both during the process of production and use.

The grease play an anti-corrosion and protective part in steel wire ropes. The grease which the steel wire rope use can divide into wire-rope surface grease and wire-rope hempwicking grease by the diversity of the used part. The surface grease is used for oiling stranded rope and steel wire rope, and the grease for hemp core is used for oiling wire rope fiber core.

For example, there are appropriative grease for friction lifting main rope and belt conveying rope, appropriative high-performance grease for port container crane, appropriative high drop piont grease for steel wire ropes for ropeway, appropriative corrosion resistant grease for friction lifting tail rope and wire rope using for ocean and so on.

There should be different choice for the greasing way of the steel wire rope in different using conditions. It is divided into re oiling, slight oiling and without oiling by the oiling thickness; it is divided into silk oiling, stranded rope oiling and rope oiling by the different oiling stage.
